How do I apply?

Do I need to have health insurance?

All students at Institutions of Higher Education in Germany have to provide proof of obligatory health insurance at the time of registration. The University can help you in getting short term health insurance for the first month, including travel to Germany (sometimes required for visa). Information about compulsory health insurance

How is the academic year organized in Germany?

The academic year is organized into 2 semesters, the Winter Semester and the Summer Semester.

Please note that exams are typically in the non-lecture periods, so don't plan on extended months of vacation.

Winter Semester 2009/2010:
October 12, 2009 - February 13, 2010
(With a lecture free period from December 24, 2009 - January 5, 2010)

Summer Semester 2010:
April 20, 2009 - July 25, 2009

Winter Semester 2010/2011: 
October 18, 2010 - February 19, 2010
(With a lecture free period from December 24, 2009 - January 5, 2010)

Summer Semester 2011:
April 11, 2009 - July 16, 2009

A German Intensive Course (40 hours), free of charge, will be offered before the start of classes at the beginning of October. 

The International Office offers an orientation week for new international students the beginning of October.
