Description:

Good scientific practice is an obligatory two-days-seminar for all new students.

What is good scientific practice? To discuss and to answer this question is the purpose of the course. The seminar on good scientific practice will deal with the theoretical, social, ethical and practical aspects of scientific working. The whole process of scientific knowledge production – from the first step of developing a valid scientific question to the publication of results – will be explained and analysed especially with regard to the varying interests of the participants in this process, and the conflicts which may result as a consequence. The major factors influencing the process of scientific endeavours are treated, e.g. questions on data management, ownership of data and material, authorship, conflict of interest, tutorship for young scientists, different scientific cultures, conflicts in (international) cooperation, and scientific fraud. Student’s interests in specific topics will be recognised.
The seminar will take place in the Villa Eberhardt, Heidenheimer Straße 80, Ulm
