Visit of our new Guest Professor Joseph Ferretti, College of Medicine, University of Oklahoma Health Science Center

Ulm University

The Graduate School in cooperation with Prof. Dr. Barbara Spellerberg (Institute of Medical Microbiology and Hygiene) proudly announces  the visit of our new Guest Professor Joseph Ferretti, College of Medicine, University of Oklahoma Health Science Center.
He is coming to Ulm from September 10th till 20th and is giving both a lecture and a scientific talk:

Scientific Talk: "Historical View of the Role of Streptococcus Bacteria in the Development of Modern Biomedical Research and the Treatment of Infectious Diseases" takes place in Lecture Hall H 11 N24 on Thursday, September 15, 4:00 pm.

"Covering the times of Hippocrates in 400 BC who wrote about diseases that we now know were of streptococcal origin, to the contribution of many German physicians and scientists in identifying the organisms involved in epidemics and discovering antibiotics for treatment, to the modern molecular biology contributions and the recent genome editing and engineering technology that will influence a broad spectrum of future biomedical research"

Lecture: "Comparative Genomics as a tool for understanding the evolution of diseases caused by the pathogen Streptococcus pyogenes“ takes place in N27, Multimediaroom on Friday, September 16,  1:00 pm .

The lecture describes the advancements that genomic comparisons can bring about to understand the molecular events that result in evolution of strains with enhanced virulence as well as epidemiological differences.
