We are a team of library information experts and provide specialized services to support the University's research and scholarly activities.
Our service point Publication Management organizes the exchange of publications (theses and dissertations produced at the University of Ulm) with other institutions and is responsible for inventorying and cataloging these items for the Library. Our team offers advice and support to doctoral students who are interested in publishing on the Ulmer Volltextserver (VTS) alongside providing information and assistance regarding open access publishing, reference management software (e.g. RefWorks), and digital library. Our goal is to meet the information needs of the University's academic community and provide advice and counsel throughout the publication process.
Providing specialized information services to the University community is an integral part of our service portfolio. This includes handling specialized questions passed to us from our Help Desk (1st level support) or Reference and Information (2nd level support) as well as developing and expanding our program of information literacy workshops (e.g. database usage, subject-specific workshops, and e-tutorials).
In close cooperation with University academics, we monitor and evaluate emerging trends and issues in library and information science that could be of significance to the research community. This information is then utilized to develop more advanced and enhanced library services (e.g. mobile services).
Lastly, it falls within our responsibility to coordinate the training programs for those interested in a career in the library profession (e.g. library assistants, ongoing librarians, and trainees).
