Printing Notes for Students

Billing of the printing costs

Students receive a free print quota which has an equivalent value of 8 Euro at the moment (from 1st April 2013 to 30th September 2013). For this amount 533 DIN A4 pages can be printed in black and white, double-sided. Print outs on the colour laser printers or poster printers are more expensive. The exact prices for the different out put devices can be requested at any time at the Service-Point University East.

The printing quota can always be topped up at the SB-Terminals using the electronic cash on the smart card - provided that enough electronic cash is available on the card (see Öffnet einen internen Link im aktuellen Fenstersmart card). The additionally purchased print quota is usually added to the printer account within a few minutes and is then available for print outs.

While a free print quota cannot be transferred to the following calender year if not used this does not apply to privately paid print quota which doesn't have any limitations. The cash balance is not transferable to other persons.

For complaints about charged print jobs please contact Service-Point University East.

The current status of the printer account, thecurrently active print jobs as well as a list of the recently printed print jobs can be viewed via an "account-queue":

  • Under kiz Unix systems:
Send a document to the queue 'print_status' (is normally available).
You can also use an interactive shell in the kiz Unix systems and make the entry
    echo | lpr -Pprint_status
You will receive an e-mail including the printer account balance.
  • Under Windows in kiz Windows systems (PC-Pools):
Clicking on the Icon "Print Account Info" on the desktop.
You will receive an e-mail including the printer account balance.
  • For wireless lan users:
If you send print jobs via wireless lan (e.g. from your notebook) it is possible to install there an account-queue as well the (queue name: print_status). You will recieve an e-mail with your account balance after sending any document to the queue.

Cancelling print jobs

Print jobs can be cancelled at any time via using "Cancel Queue":

  • Under kiz Unix systems:
Send a document to the queue "print_cancel" (is normally available).
You can also use an interactive shell in the kiz Unix systems and make the entry

A cancelletion applies to all print jobs under your account name which are in a printing queue. For each cancelletion you get an e-mail confirmation with the relevant results. Printing jobs which are already being processed in one of the out put devices can only be cancelled at the printer itself via a cancel button - even while the print job is on progress.
