Who We Are

The Communication and Information Center (kiz) is a central service provider for the University of Ulm, which, as defined in §28 LHG (University Law of the State of Baden-Württemberg), was established to maintain a literature collection that supports the study, teaching, and research needs of the University community as well as to handle the planning, management, operation, and maintenance of the University's ICT resources. After its founding in 2002, kiz took over operation of the University Library, University Data Processing Center, and the Photography, Graphics, and Reproduction Center.

Organizational Matrix

In 2002, The University's network of IT, photography, and library science professionals joined together under a single management structure to form a new customer-oriented service provider. Therefore, we seek to draw our customers' attention first and foremost to our services rather than to our organizational structure. Our service portfolio is divided into three service units: Library Services, IT Services, and Media Services.

Our formal organizational structure reflects our prioritization of customer service. To accomplish this, we took closely-related work procedures and appropriately grouped them together to form five departments: Infrastructure, Systems, Media, Circulation, and Collections. The departments are, in turn, broken down into teams, whose members have similar work duties.

Thus, thanks to our structural evolution, we can tap maxmimum synergy potential, free up time and manpower for our staff to focus on emerging innovations, and stay close to our customers' needs now and in the future.
