Nearly the entire stock of print and nonprint media is made accessible to all users within the central library and two specialised departmental libraries. Furthermore the department orders all kinds  of literature which is not available in Ulm from other libraries all over the world (interlibrary loan and other delivery services). In return Ulm offers the own holdings for external use (2010 about 21,700 interlibrary loan requests). The department primarily supplies the students, the lecturers and scientists with literature but the library collection and services are accessible for all scientifically interested users of the general public. In 2010 20% of the 6,500 active users (minimum of one borrowed medium per year) were not members of the University of Ulm.

320 working places including 30 computer working stations are available to users for studying and working with all library media as well as with own material.
