After Arrival in Ulm/Neu-Ulm:
Important things that you have to do within the first days after your arrival in Ulm/Neu-Ulm
Introduce yourself at the International Office of your university and ask for Orientation activities and the Buddy-Program. Normally social activities as well as assistance in carrying out the formalities are arranged – then you do not have to do the followings on your own!
- complete your lease contract (student residence) via Studentenwerk or International Office;
- open a German bank account (open an account, get a bank card/EC card, get information about transfer);
- complete a health insurance if you do not have a health insurance in your home country. It covers a sufficient medical supply in Germany;
- matriculat on the given days (which are on your acceptace letter);
- register at the city council and if possible, apply for your residence permit.
Ulm University offers for all future students a possibility to improve or refresh their mathematical knowledges and carries out a "Universitäts-Trainingscamp" ("university training camp") in German.
Before semester starts, the student councils and student unions of Ulm University offer for all freshers an introduction programm (only in German). The program is called FUESE and Fach-ESE ("subject spanning" and "subject specific" fresher introduction). Through these events you could get useful information for your studies and also have possibilities to make initial contacts.
When the semester starts, you need
necessary:
- hour schedules (Stundenpläne)
- weekly hour schedules (Wochenstundenpläne)
- lecture directory (Vorlesungsverzeichnis)
- study and exam regulations (Studien- und Prüfungsordnungen)
Based on these plans you can make your personal study plan for each semester. If you have difficulties in it,
Studienfacherater (study sbuject counceller) will help you.
The International Office can give you additionally important advice on formalities which you have to handle at the beginning of your studies. Furthermore, you can get valuable tips to help you feel at home in Ulm / Neu-Ulm soon. Take advantage of all the information and orientation offersed by the university once you study there.
