Visiting Students
are students
- who apply for a study abroad period (semester / year or short term lab / research periods) individually and do not participate in an official exchange program
- They may be admitted as temporary non-degree students for a maximum period of two semesters. Once they are admitted, temporary students have the same rights and obligations as degree seeking students, but they cannot participate in intermediate (e.g. Vordiplom / Zwischenprüfung) or final examinations (e.g. Bachelor / Diplom / Master). All other course-related examinations have to be regulated on an individual basis with the professors who teach the respective course.
Please note that medical elective / clinical training applications can only be accepted from exchange students studying at one of our partner institutions and having sufficient German language proficiency. For details see

Minimum Requirements for Admission into a Study Program
- At the date of application for admission into an undergraduate program: proof of one successful year of study at home university
- By the time they start their study abroad period at Ulm University applicants for temporary admission into a graduate program must have completed either
- a Bachelor degree or
- 3 years of study - or
- an equivalent of 180 ECTS
- Confirmation of enrolment at home university during study abroad period at Ulm University
- Proof of German or English language proficiency depending on the courses the student wants to take (for details see "Application Form")
Admission Procedure
- Application documents will be sent to the Dean of Students in the respective study program / School
- If study program / School is willing to accept the applicant, application documents will be sent to the Admissions Office
- Admissions Office issues the official acceptance letter for admission as temporary non-degree student
- Before the beginning of the lecture period the International Office will schedule a meeting with a faculty advisor at Ulm University.

Semester Periods
Winter Semester: October 1 - March 31 (lecture period: mid-October to mid-February)
Summer Semester: April 1 - September 30 (lecture period: mid-April - mid July)
Language Proficiency
All courses - except MSc courses "Advanced Materials", "Communications Technology", "Energy Science & Technology", "Finance" and "Molecular Medicine" - are taught in German. Therefore a medium level of German is necessary. If study period at our university is only for project work in a department, a good command of English is sufficient. German Intensive is offered as extracurricular course.
Tuition
€ 500 per semester for the following English taught Master programs:
- Advanced Materials
- Communications Technology
- Energy Science & Technology
- Finance
All other programs: no tuition.
Fees
Administration Fee: € 40 per semester.
Student Service Agency Fee: € 63,50 per semester.
Basic Living Costs
including accommodation, health insurance, bus ticket, food: € 750 per month minimum.
Scholarships
German universities do not award any scholarships or provide financial aid. Incomings may apply for a scholarship at any institution in their home country or at German institutions through the German Embassy, the Goethe-Institute or the
DAAD office (= German Academic Exchange Service) in their home country.
Housing
The International Office does not provide accommodation for temporary visiting students.
Required Documents
Once accepted students should not forget to bring the
required documents which are needed for matriculation and temporary residency permit.
