Science and Research at the Medical Faculty
The scientific activities of the Medical Faculty of Ulm University have undergone a remarkable development during recent years. A research profile has been developed, with priorities strengthened by external funding and internal faculty resources. The growth rate of third-party funds acquired (52% over a period of four years) resulted in Ulm ranking far above the average for third-party funds per professor, compared to other medical faculties in Germany.
The research profile of the Medical Faculty comprises the following priorities:
- Hematology/Oncology
- Ageing/Apoptosis
- Infectious Diseases
- Metabolism
- Signaling
- Neurosciences
- Molecular imaging
- Biomaterials / Musculoskeletal Research
These priorities are strengthened by 23 nationally and internationally funded
research networks coordinated in Ulm (as of September 2011).
In order to sharpen its research profile, extend its unique characteristics and exploit synergies, the Medical Faculty has also established the following competence and excellence centers supported by the State of Baden-Württemberg:
