Peter studied physics in Ulm and Berlin with an emphasis on theoretical physics. His main research interests are in the theory of strongly interacting quantum matter. He held research and teaching positions in many institutions including Princeton University (as a Feodor-Lynen Fellow of the Alexander-von-Humboldt Foundation), the University of New South Wales in Sydney (as an Australian Research Council International Researchers Exchange Senior Fellow), and the University of Jyväskylä in Finland (as an Alexander von Humboldt Award Fellow of the Finnish Academy). Occasionally he makes a trip to Sweden to discuss physics with his Swedish friends or to teach a class on his favorite topics in mathematical physics. As he has recently been persuaded to write a book, he needs some teaching of "Scientific Communication Skills - The Craft of Scientific Writing and Presentation" badly. He also teaches in the Advanced Materials Science Programme, in the International Graduate School and in the Master Programme in Molecular Medicine where, especially in the latter two, his interest in the philosophy of science comes in handy. Peter is a member of various physical societies and currently deputy spokesman of the Munich section of the Deutsche Gesellschaft der Humboldtianer.
