Born in Hilden (Rhineland), He studied history and media studies in Düsseldorf. 2002-2009 Research fellow at the Institute of the History of Medicine at the Heinrich-Heine-University Düsseldorf, e.g. in the DFG-Project "Der Wert des Menschen in den Bevölkerungswissenschaften". Thorsten Halling is coordinator of the project "Classification and Evolution in Biology, Linguistics and the History of Science" and scince 2009 Member at the Institute of the History, Theory and Ethics of Medicine at the University of Ulm.
Area of expertise: History of science, Development of population research, health care and social policy in the 19th and 20th century.
Current research interests: Networks in Sciences and Humanities, Hospitals in History, Infant and Young Child Feeding and Breastfeeding campaigns in the 20th century, Health reports in post-war Germany
