Curriculum vitae
Peter Bäuerle presently is Professor and holds a Chair for Organic Chemistry at the University of Ulm (Germany). He is director of the Institute of Organic Chemistry II and Advanced Materials.
In 1985, under the guidance of Prof. F. Effenberger he received his Ph.D. from the University of Stuttgart (Germany) and spent in 1986 a post-doctoral year at MIT, Boston, in the group of Prof. M.S. Wrighton.
From 1987-1994, he carried out independent research at the University of Stuttgart and received his habilitation.
Before moving to Ulm in 1996, from 1994, he was Professor of Organic Chemistry at the University of Würzburg (Germany).
In 2000 he was awarded with the René Descartes Prize of the European Union acknowledging his work in the field of plastic electronics.
In 2002, he was visiting scientist at the University of Osaka (Japan) with a grant of the Japanese Society for the Promotion of Science (JSPS).
In 2003, he was guest professor at the Université Rennes 1 (France).
In 2004, he received a call on a C4-professorship for "Organic chemistry of complex systems" at the University of Bonn (succession of Prof. Vögtle).
In 2006, he was co-founder of the company Heliatek (Dresden)
His current research interests include organic materials; in particular organic semiconductors and conductors, conjugated poly- and oligothiophenes. Synthetic strategies and new reactions to their functionalization, structure-property relationships, self-assembling properties, and their applications in electronic devices, in particular, in organic solar cells are investigated.
The results have been published in ca. 240 peer-reviewed scientific papers, including book chapters and patents.
