Bewerbung
In a nutshell – What is biology
The master’s programme in biology builds on the comprehensive basic education in biology you received during your bachelor’s programme but is more research-oriented. A substantial proportion of lectures and classes is taught in English. The two-year master’s programme aims to deepen your knowledge, thus enabling you to work independently in many areas of biology.
Study objectives
You aim to receive a solid education in one area of biology in combination with in-depth education in one medical and one further minor subject which is not biology. After completion of the first semester, you choose your special subject from »molecular biosciences«, »neurobiology« and »ecology/biodiversity«. Moreover, you elect some modules from one field of medicine (biochemistry, pharmacology/toxicology, virology, human genetics, medical neuroscience) or biophysics or any of the other special subjects offered by biology and acquire specific knowledge in one subject which is not from biology, i.e. computer science, business administration, mathematics, chemistry or philosophy.
Career opportunities
Depending on your choice of special subject, you are qualified to begin your professional career in biomedical or pharmaceutical research or industry, biotechnology, ecology or nature conservation. There are also professional opportunities at authorities responsible for biological quality control or the management of quality, environment and pollutants as well as in the food industry. Furthermore, the master’s degree opens up the possibility of pursuing doctoral studies and subsequently working at universities or research institutes.
