50 years Ulm University - special editions of the press

This year, Ulm University is commemorating the 50th anniversary of its founding. This event is not only in the spotlight at the University itself, but it is also receiving attention in regional and national press as well. Special publications have been released dedicated to the Ulm University jubilee year, providing fascinating articles on Ulm University’s history and founding. One interesting example is an insider’s report from the perspective of an Ulm University alumnus. In a special edition of the local newspaper Südwest Presse (in German only) , Dr Christoph Kupferschmid relates his experiences as one of the first students in the medical programme (report only in German).

The Ulm University press office compiled an impressive anniversary edition of the university magazine uniulm intern as well, which is available here in PDF format (in German only).

What’s more, the Sparkasse Bank in Ulm’s Neue Mitte area is currently hosting an exhibition presenting the 50 years of Ulm University. Exhibits from the past were put together to offer an interesting overview of Ulm University and its development. The exhibit is on display from 3 March to 15 May 2017 and is free of charge.

Ulm University’s foundation day was duly celebrated on 24 February 2017. The opening ceremony in the Congress Centre Ulm (CCU) marked the official kick-off to the foundation day at 2:00pm. More than 900 guests were in attendance at the ceremony, which was opened by University President Professor Michael Weber.
A jubilee ball (in German only) was held on the same evening with a reception of sparkling wine and a buffet. Following the opening dance, University President Professor Michael Weber and SWR radio host Maren Haring transported guests back to the time of the University’s foundation by showing film clips of the youngest university in the state.
