Leibniz Award for University of Ulm Alumnus

Prof. Dr. Christoph Klein, who grew up in Ehingen, is one of the recipients of the 2010 Gottfried Wilhelm Leibniz Award, the German advancement prize which carries with it the largest amount of prize money. He studied medicine in Ulm, at Harvard and in Munich. In his department in Hanover, he researches genetic defects in rare childhood diseases.

His education to become a specialised physician in paediatrics lead him to Paris and Freiburg and in turn to Harvard Medical School. Prof. Klein has been working at Hanover Medical School since 2000, where he was first chief physician, section head and head of a clinical research unit. Today he is the head of the department and medical director of the Paediatric Hospital for Haematology and Oncology.
