Tutorial 3: An Introduction to BPMN 2.0
The Business Process Modeling Notation (BPMN) aims at providing a notation for processes and interactions that is readily understandable by business analysts as well as technical developers. Version 2.0 consolidates the previous version and adds new features:
- A graphical notation for modeling choreographies and conversations,
- A metamodel and accompanying interchange format,
- An execution semantics for all modeling elements.
- A visual model and accompanying interchange format,
- A mapping from a BPMN subset to WS-BPEL
Different tool vendors can conform with the specification in different ways as conformance is split into 4 conformance points: Process Modeling Conformance, Process Execution Conformance, BPEL Process Execution Conformance and Choreography Conformance. The tutorial gives a detailed overview over the new features of BPMN 2.0 with an emphasis on execution semantics.
