Recognition of view direction, attention, and social perception
The project investigates mechanisms of the visual detection and analysis of facial form and motion to infer relative gaze direction and to recognize intended social communication. The investigation will utilize knowledge about key principles of visual processing of form and motion in biological systems, e.g., primary feature extraction, motion detection and integration, and the representation of moving faces and eyes. The goal is to develop algorithms for visual analysis, attention and emotion processing that are able to generate representations of alertness when an approaching person itself starts to communicate.
