The Baden-Württemberg-SCHOLARSHIP
The International Office manages student exchange programs with universities world wide. To promote these programs exchange students may be awarded a "Baden-Württemberg-SCHOLARSHIP" donated by the "Baden-Württemberg Stiftung", a foundation that is linked to the Baden-Württemberg Ministry of Science and Research in Stuttgart.
These scholarships are exclusively offered to students of those non-European (non-Erasmus) universities which have supported the student exchange with Ulm University or are going to do so in the near future!
Scholarship Rates and Duration
Scholarship rates and periods may vary according to variations in budget.
Minimum monthly rate
- for incoming undergraduate exchange students: 400 Euro per month
- for incoming graduate exchange students: 600 Euro per month.
According to the regulations of the Baden-Württemberg Foundation the minimum scholarship period per student is 3 months, the maximum period is 11 months.
Eligible Candidates
Undergraduate as well as graduate / postgraduate students with an academic record above average and accepted for a full exchange semester or exchange year to take courses at Universität Ulm are eligible for the Baden-Württemberg-SCHOLARSHIP.
Students coming for research / lab work are not eligible for the Baden-Württemberg SCHOLARSHIP.
Scholarship Distribution Policy at Universität Ulm
The Baden-Württemberg Foundation assigns a fixed scholarship budget per academic year to each of the higher education institutions in Baden-Württemberg. Universität Ulm awards these (partial) scholarships to incoming and outgoing students participating in non-European exchange programs.
Due to a higher intake of exchange students and a growing number of exchange partners worldwide Universität Ulm is forced to change its strategy of distributing the Baden-Wuerttemberg Scholarships. This means that in the future we will no longer be able to distribute the scholarship budget evenly among partners.
The new distribution policy will rather be a more strategic one, putting emphasis on selected partners by offering them scholarships in order to attract incoming exchange students. As a consequence of this new distribution strategy there will be some partners that will lose Baden-Wuerttemberg Scholarships - this will mainly affect partners with unbalanced exchange numbers (more incoming exchange students to U Ulm than outgoing exchange students from U Ulm to partner).
So for the academic year 2013-14 (September - July) and following years we will announce the number of available scholarship months to respective partners each year in February latest, at least about 8 months before the beginning of the new academic year.
Scholarship Recipient Selection
The first decision on whom to nominate for a Baden-Württemberg-SCHOLARSHIP is up to the exchange coordinator / committee of the sending partner institution.
Scholarship Application Procedure
- Partner institution sends scholarship nomination(s) together with the students' exchange application documents to exchange coordinator at Universität Ulm.
- After Universität Ulm International Office has issued the exchange acceptance letter the selected students will be asked to register their scholarship application online - the link to the Online Portal of the Baden-Württemberg SCHOLARSHIP will be sent by email.
- After approval, Baden-Württemberg SCHOLARSHIP foundation will email scholarship contracts to selected students and students will have access to information on scholarship value and duration.
