What base knowledge am I expected to have in Physics?

To be able to follow the lectures in the 1st semester, a thorough knowledge of fundamental physics is necessary. This includes:

Mechanics: Conservation laws, Harmonic oscillations, Waves

Electrodynamics: Electrostatics, Magnetostatics, Induction, Electromagnetic waves Optics: Waves in matter, Interference, Diffraction Introductory

Quantum Physics: Fundamental Experiments, Basic formal approach, Simple situations ( Particle in a box, Tunneling through a finite barrier).

To get a feeling for the level of physics necessary to follow the courses in Energy Science and Technology, the following textbooks may serve as orientation and are also recommended for self study:

Paul A. Tipler, Physics for Scientists and Engineers, 3rd edition, Worth Publisher, Inc. New York, 1991.

Richard Wolfson, Jay M. Pasachoff, Physics for Scientists and Engineers, 2nd edition, HarperCollins College Publishers, New York 1995.
