Research interests

  • Conservation and landscape genetics of anteaters
  • Immune genetic diversity (MHC variation)
  • Effects of barriers to gene flow and isolation-by-distance (microsatellites, SNPs, mtDNA)
  • Spatially-explicit clustering methods

Scientific projects

My project aims to investigate the genetic structure and diversity of Brazilian populations of the lesser anteater (Tamandua tetradactyla), a mammal of the order Pilosa (Xenarthra) distributed along South America, east of Andes. Using neutral markers, such as microsatellite loci, I explore the effects of demography in shaping the genetic structure of populations. Furthermore, I investigate the adaptive MHC variability along these populations, and verify if there are evidences of local MHC variants that could be correlated with local adaptation associated with different environments.
