Energy Science and Technology - A Topic for the Future
The Master of Science Program in Energy Science and Technology has been designed to provide students, both national and international, with a comprehensive education on scientific and technological aspects of modern techniques for energy conversion and energy storage. Special emphasis is given to interdisciplinary aspects, which become increasingly important in modern technologies.
Building on a broad base covering conventional energy technology as well as related fields in Chemistry, Materials Science and Electrical Engineering, the course focuses on »Non-Carnot« techniques for Energy Conversion, in particular on Electrochemical Energy Conversion and Energy Storage (Fuel Cells, Batteries). Reflecting the interdisciplinary program character, courses will be taught by lecturers from the Natural Science and Engineering Departments, and from the participating Research Institutions.
The program offers thorough scientific and technical training in an active Research and Development environment, composed of Basic Research at the University, Applied Research and Development at the
Center for Solar Energy and Hydrogen Storage (ZSW), and Industrial Development at the
Daimler Research Center in Ulm and other industry partners in this region, as well as intensive language training and inter-cultural exchange.
Global opportunities at a young, research-oriented University
Ulm University offers a two year international Masters of Science Program in Energy Science and Technology. Bringing together qualified students from all over the world; it is designed primarily for international students and taught entirely in English. The curriculum is augmented by intensive courses and inter-cultural exchange. The graduate course will start in Winter term each year.
The University of Ulm
The International Master of Science Program "Energy Science and Technology" is supported by the Natural Sciences and Engineering Sciences departments at the University of Ulm. From the first days in 1969, these departments have attracted world-renowned researchers and academic teachers through a combination of excellent research facilities and close proximity to industrial research centres. Many of the professors have had successful careers in academia and industry before joining the young University of Ulm, and still maintain close ties to industry. The research groups continue to be well funded from national sources, as well as the European Community, and industrial sources, providing up-to-date lab facilities and challenging research opportunities for graduate students, doctoral candidates, and post-doctoral fellows alike.
From the start, the elected student representatives have played an important role in shaping the University. The excellent relationship between student councils and academic staff is vital for maintaining a well balanced learning atmosphere and continuous improvement of instructional quality.
Graduate Curriculum
International students holding a Bachelor degree in Chemistry, Physics, Electrical Engineering, Chemical Engineering, Materials Science or a closely related field are eligible for admission.
For German students or foreign students graduating from a German institution of higher education, a Dipl.-Ing. degree from a Fachhochschule or a diploma from a Berufsakademie is required.
