Research - Department of Psychiatry II
Head of department: Prof. Dr. med. Thomas Becker
Together with the Departments of Psychiatry and Psychotherapy I and Psychiatry and Psychotherapy III, the Department of Psychiatry II represents Ulm University's psychiatric and psychotherapeutic clinic. The clinic accomplishes tasks in the field of research and teaching.
Lectures and courses are given by members of the department on psychiatry (main lecture), on health economy, on psychiatric epidemiology, on psychotherapy, as well as in the psychiatric practical training course of Ulm University's Faculty for Human Medicine.
Our research projects are funded by the Deutsche Forschungsgemeinschaft (German Research Foundation)
, the Federal Ministry of Education and Research
and the European Union.
Currently there are four research units:
Mental Health Services RU: 
The interdisciplinary research group (head PD Dr. R. Kilian) examines medical, psychosocial and socio-economic basic principles of psychiatric health services and their effectiveness and efficiency.
Psychoimmunology RU

For more than 20 years this research group (head Prof. Dr. K. Bechter) has been investigating into clinical basic research, e.g. to the virus and the bacterial aetiology of mental illnesses, possibly due to infectious autoimmune reactions respectively due to immune-pathological procedures.
Psychopathology and Psychopharmacology RU 
The research group (head Dr. M. Jäger)is dedicated to optimising medical therapy. Furthermore it accomplishes clinical studies about single disease patterns.
Section Geriatric Psychiatry

This section (head Prof. Dr. Matthias Riepe) is dedicated to mental and neuro psychiatric diseases of ageing.
