Information for exceptional hardship

5% of all available places (one place minimum) in master’s programmes with restricted admission are reserved for cases of exceptional hardship.

Exceptional hardship is assumed particularly in cases where it is absolutely necessary for the applicant to begin their studies without delay due to health reasons or equally serious circumstances. Applicants who depend on Ulm as place of study due to exceptional family, social or economic circumstances can claim hardship as well.

Please note:

  • the claim of hardship is to be made in the course of the online application;

  • after submitting your online application you need to hand in an explanatory statement including copies of supporting documents by the application cut-off date;

  • we do not conduct preliminary checks of reasons of hardship.

Applicants whose claims of hardship are accepted take part in the selection procedure in accordance with the respective statute. Those who do not get admitted in the course of the selection procedure will be ranked according to criteria of hardship.
