Felix Börrnert is a researcher at Ulm University, Germany. His main reasearch interest is the development and application of unconventional methods in aberration-corrected transmission electron microscopy (TEM).
After learning the physics profession with optical and electrical spectroscopy on point defects in large single crystals at the TU Dresden, Germany, he switched to in-situ TEM studies on carbon nanostructures for his doctoral thesis in the IFW Dresden (Leibniz Association, Germany) measuring the electrical conductivity of individual nano-sized graphene constrictions in-situ. Afterwards, joining the Triebenberg Special Laboratory, Germany, he worked in the field of electron holography with Hannes Lichte and started the development of a dedicated large-sample-chamber aberration-corrected in-situ TEM in close collaboration with CEOS GmbH, Heidelberg, Germany, also having a joint position at the University of Oxford, United Kingdom. Currently, he works at Ulm University with Ute Kaiser and Harald Rose evaluating and applying the first dedicated low-voltage chromatic- and geometric-aberration-corrected transmission electron microscope still in close collaboration with CEOS GmbH. In his spare time, he is still developing dedicated in-situ microscopes.
