Backup & Storage
The central and campus-wide backup service is available to all employees and departments of the universities of Ulm, Konstanz and Tübingen. Data from departmental servers and, in exceptional cases, local PCs can be backed up or restored automatically via the network.
The federal service bwFileStorage provides access to the Large Scale Data Facility (LSDF), which is installed at the Karlsruhe Institute of Technology (KIT). It is for users of universities and univeristies of applied science in Baden-Württemberg. The LSDF is the core of the bwFileStorage service. It provides additional storage in case that the storage space held locally at universities and institutes no longer meets the requirements or new unforeseen storage requirements. The service is operated by KIT.
The central file server is available to all employees and departments of the university. Files of all kinds can be stored at a central location on a server in a so-called share. The access is via the CIFS or SMB protocol, which is suitable for all common operating systems. For authentication the kiz account is used. Shares are established exclusively for institutions or comparable organizational units.
