Licensing of digital editions of scientific journals for Ulm University. The selection is coordinated with the faculties and carried out on their behalf. In addition, online access to e-journals is organised and ensured via the providers' platforms with the help of the Electronic Journals Library (EZB) (overview of e-journals).

Service features

  • Cooperation with consortia and national licence libraries with the purpose to achieve lower prices and the widest possible range of titles.
  • Portfolio financing from central funds, as well as tapping additional sources of financing (university, state)
  • Realisation of orders through supplier comparisons, request for offers, renegotiation of discounts and conditions
  • Acquisition and inclusion of new e-journals and e-journals packages
  • Organizing and ensuring online access for authorized user groups to all licensed titles
  • Ensuring access to the licensed e-journals from outside the campus network via VPN
  • Information on access routes and conditions of use as well as integration and maintenance of the Electronic Journals Library (EZB) for centralized listing of e-journals
  • Providing advice and information on media offerings, forms of licensing and market developments
  • Optimizing the functionality of the local integrated library system for this product portfolio

User groups

The service is available to members and institutions of Ulm University. Access to the full-text e-journals is limited to members of Ulm University or to all persons who are entitled to receive a kiz account. Information and consulting services are also provided for other user groups (other libraries, hospitals, schools, etc.).

Application modalities

Institutions and members of Ulm University can use the relevant features without a separate application. To access the full texts of the e-journals from outside the campus network, a VPN connection must be established. This requires a kiz account, which members of the university receive upon application (employees) or automatically upon enrolment (students).

Charge / Fee

No fees or charges will be charged for the service.

Advice

The use of download tools, in particular their change to make them look like browsers, is always an abuse and will be prosecuted accordingly.
