Service Category: Network & Connectivity

With VPN (Virtual Private Network), computers that are not part of the Ulm University network can be integrated into it for the duration of the VPN connection, as if the computer were actually located there. The integration into different network areas is possible by using different VPN servers. This makes it possible to use all services that are available in the corresponding network area.

The service supports the following VPN access implementations:

SSL-VPN with Cisco AnyConnect Client (Standard)
IPsec (if the SSL VPN client is not available for your platform)
WebVPN-Gateway (without local installation, but functionally limited)

Service descriptions

Providing network connectivity with IP addresses from different IP address ranges of Ulm University. The following types of VPN access are provided:

  • VPN Uni (Campus network in general)
  • VPN ZUV (protected administration network)
  • VPN company access

Providing suitable VPN client software for the most common operating systems as well as installation instructions.

User Groups

The general VPN server is available to every user with a kiz account.

Only employees of the university administration and employees of the kiz who perform tasks in the administration network are granted access to the VPN ZUV.

Access to the VPN for maintenance tasks concerning telephony and building control technology is granted to employees of companies who are in charge of maintenance, as well as to employees of the university and clinic with corresponding tasks.

Application conditions

In order to use the general VPN service, a valid kiz account is required. There is no further need for a separate application.

Access to the ZUV VPN and for companies or maintenance purposes must be applied for through the helpdesk and will be set up after verification of entitlement.

Charges / Fees

No charges or fees will be made for the service.
