The kiz procures, manages and monitors a variety of software offerings that are made available to users through various access options. The license is procured both for research and teaching as well as in the field of administration and results in a complex treaty landscape of multiple, campus and national contracts. Not included are licenses in the field of information media.
The license terms are monitored by the kiz. The users are provided by a publication on the kiz home page of the product use rights.
The service includes the central provision of scientific software, which is used in the context of university teaching and research. This includes mathematical and scientific-technical program packages, statistical programs, software for data visualization and analysis, and development tools, such as Compiler and numerical libraries. They are made available either by installing the software on the public access computers in the kiz (HPC clusters, computer labs) or in the form of installation packages and instructions for local installations on workstations and departmental servers of users.
For programs with network licenses, a central license server is operated, the (concurrent user licenses) regulates the number of the currently in use network licenses and each entitle the user grants university-wide access to such licenses.
The service also includes the provision of documentation and specific support and guidance for the use of the provided scientific software packages.

Purchase and getting access to software (german only)
Software Catalog: Overview of available scientific or other software that is installed on our systems (servers, pc labs) or that can be installed on workstations and servers of your institute.
Software Download: Page contents are only visible after login. Software can directly be downloaded there if it uses our central network license server to get its licenses or that is availabe for the whole campus by some other means. Any other software has to be purchased as a voucher at the kiz shop. On the vouchers is a key that can be entered on the pages and gives you access to the download.
Microsoft Campus Agreement: The Campus & School Program (Campus Agreement) of Microsoft allows to rent licenses. This program is only available to institutions of the University of Ulm and covers certain Microsoft products. The license is further limited to official computers that are property of the university. For private use, staff personel has access to the Home Use Program and for students Office 365 is available.
Asknet Shop: Asknet has a diverse set of software packages with academic pricing. The offers in the Asknet software shop are not under control of the University of Ulm. Please check first if our own download site offers the software and please direct any questions about their offers directly to Asknet.
