Project Group: ZeitZeugenArbeit

In the winter semester 97/98, a project “ZeitZeugenArbeit” was launched at the ZAWiW, which aims to collect, document and make accessible the living conditions and experiences of older people - as timer witnesses - in various historically important contexts and to make them accessible to a wider public ,

At the center of the work are the following theoretical and practical questions:

  • What is “ZeitZeugenArbeit “, what does it want, what can it do?
  • In what context are subjective experiences and findings of historical science?
  • What forms of mediation of authentic experiences exist?
  • How can “ZeitZeugenArbeit” promote the dialogue with the younger generation?

The group meets monthly in the plenum and is currently working in subgroups on the post-war period in Ulm and the region around Ulm. It provides help in working out your own story, as well as writing reports about personal experiences in a particular time period and researching in archives. It is looking for a dialogue with the youth in projects with school classes and is conducting public intergenerational (and intercultural) narrative cafés on certain topics of everyday life at different locations in and around Ulm (Altentreff Ulm/Neu-Ulm, Haus der Begegnung Ulm, OASE 65 Wiblingen). In virtual projects, the group also initiates the dialogue between old and young on the Internet.

Those who would like to exchange experiences with the youth and to get to know other history (everyday story) are welcome.
