Find the right German course for your language level
In order to find the right German course for you, it is important to assess your current language level as accurately as possible. Our courses are based on the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages (CEFR) and are divided into sensible intermediate levels so that there is the right course for every language level.
What do the language levels mean?
Here is an overview of the most important levels and what you can usually already do or learn there:
Language Levels
Language Level Competencies
You start at the A1 level. You will learn to use simple sentences, numbers, times, and how to talk about yourself and your daily life.
Points Placement Test: 00–24 Points
Example: If you achieve 85 points in the placement test, you are at level A2-2 and can then register for a B1-1 course.
Language Level Competencies
You deepen your basic knowledge. You can hold simple conversations, e.g. in the supermarket or at the doctor's, and understand short texts.
Points Placement Test: 25–48 Points
Example: If you achieve 85 points in the placement test, you are at level A2-2 and can then register for a B1-1 course.
Language Level Competencies
You have completed A1. You will learn to talk about experiences, express simple opinions and communicate in familiar situations.
Points Placement Test: 49–72 Points
Example: If you achieve 85 points in the placement test, you are at level A2-2 and can then register for a B1-1 course.
Language Level Competencies
You will become more confident in using everyday language, be able to write simple letters or emails and hold conversations on familiar topics.

Example: If you achieve 85 points in the placement test, you are at level A2-2 and can then register for a B1-1 course.

You can express yourself clearly, talk about personal interests and formulate simple arguments.

Example: If you achieve 85 points in the placement test, you are at level A2-2 and can then register for a B1-1 course.
Language Level Competencies
You understand the main points of more complex texts, can communicate spontaneously and express yourself on current topics.
Points Placement Test: 121–144 Points
Example: If you achieve 85 points in the placement test, you are at level A2-2 and can then register for a B1-1 course.

You communicate fluently for the most part, understand challenging content and can express yourself in a differentiated way - both orally and in writing.

Example: If you achieve 85 points in the placement test, you are at level A2-2 and can then register for a B1-1 course.
