Financial Matters
Participation in the double degree program includes on-site studies for Ukrainian students during the 4th, 5th, and 8th semesters at Ulm University (see Program Structure).
Tuition in Germany is free of charge, but there is a mandatory student fee of approximately €80–85 per semester. In addition, students are responsible for covering accommodation (dormitory or other housing), food, transportation, and other living expenses. Dormitory costs start at around €300 per month, plus a one-time deposit of €300 upon moving in (called a Kaution). This deposit serves as a security fee in case of property damage; if everything is in order upon departure, the full amount is refunded. Such a deposit is required for any type of housing. Overall, students should plan for approximately €950–1000 per month to cover living expenses in Germany.
From 2026 to 2029, there will be an opportunity to receive funding within the framework of the DAAD project (see DAAD Support 2025–2029).
In addition, Germany offers a state financial support program for students called BAföG (Bundesausbildungsförderungsgesetz). Under this program, a student may receive around €950 per month if their parents’ income is low and they are not studying in Germany on a student visa.
Students residing in Germany under §24 residence status are eligible to apply for BAföG and usually receive full financial support.
