General information about the program

The double degree program between two universities involves students studying partly at one university and partly at the other, and receiving degrees from both universities. In this case, the partner universities agree in a separate agreement on how the subjects studied at one university are credited by the partner university.

Upon completion of their studies, students will receive a master's degree in Data Science and two diplomas: German and Ukrainian. The total duration of the program is two years.

Admission requirements and selection

The program is available to students of the Faculty of Mathematics and Computer Science majoring in Fundamental Mathematics, Applied Mathematics, and Computer Science (educational program in Theoretical and Applied Computer Science).

Students of the Faculty of Mathematics and Computer Science of Kharkiv National University, majoring in Fundamental Mathematics, Applied Mathematics, and Computer Science (educational program Theoretical and Applied Informatics), who are successfully studying and have a grade point average of at least 75 and a German language certificate of at least B1 level.

Those wishing to participate in the program must submit an application to the faculty no later than the middle of the third semester (September-October). The application must be accompanied by recommendations from two faculty members.

The selection committee of Karazin University selects future participants in the double degree program from the list of candidates based on the following criteria: academic performance, motivation, communication skills, social adaptability, and emotional intelligence. A joint selection committee of both universities (Kharkiv National University and Ulm University) interviews each applicant and makes the final selection.

Financial conditions and accommodation

Education in Germany is free, but there is a student contribution of around €80–85 per semester, which is mandatory for everyone.

Yes, there is a dormitory. When registering, you choose the conditions that suit you and that you will pay for. The dormitory costs approximately 300 euros per month plus a one-time deposit of 300 euros upon check-in, which is called a kaucion — this is money in case the student damages the accommodation. If everything is in order upon departure, this money is fully refunded. This deposit is required for any type of accommodation.

Yes. Germany has a state program for financial support for students called BAföG (Bundesausbildungsförderungsgesetz, abbreviated BAföG). Under this program, students receive approximately €950 per month if their parents' income is low and they did not enter the country on a student visa. Students who are already in Germany under paragraph 24 are eligible to apply for BAföG and usually all receive funding.
