Abstract:

Across various economic sectors, there is an increasing shift of control over value-creating processes to internet-based cloud platforms. This trend suggests the hypothesis that fundamental principles of value creation are changing across industries. Building on this initial assumption, a Design Science-oriented approach is pursued to develop architectures and concepts that enable especially small and medium-sized enterprises to successfully manage this transformation. The presentation shares current insights from Design Science-oriented research projects conducted in living labs at the Ferdinand Steinbeis Institute in Heilbronn. Using concrete application examples, new value creation mechanisms and their implications for practice are demonstrated.
