PhD Student (Wissenschaftlicher Mitarbeiter / TV-L E13)
The Institute of Pure Mathematics at Ulm University is hiring a PhD student starting from October 1, 2020.
The research group for this position studies arithmetic and geometric aspects of algebraic curves. Possible themes of the PhD project are (among others) Galois representations associated to curves over number fields, semistable reduction, regular models, and Galois descent. It is possible to pursue these themes in an algorithmic direction, for example by developing implementations of theoretical results in computer systems like Magma or SageMath.
The candidate should have a strong background in algebra, and ideally both in algebraic geometry and number theory. Experience with computer algebra systems and constructive mathematics is also highly appreciated.
Applications including a curriculum vitae, transcript of records, and references for recommendation letters, can be sent to Bernadette Maiwald. Further questions about the position are also most welcome, and can be sent to Irene Bouw, Jeroen Sijsling, or Stefan Wewers. Applications received by the beginning of August 2020 will receive priority.
