Using Datastream

Thomson Datastream is a financial and economic information database. It provides current and historical data on stock prices, accounting information and macroeconomic variables, to name just the most important ones.

User-information:
An introduction to datastream is available.

Getting access via remote desktop:
The Institute of Finance offers a PC which can be used by a remote desktop connection. Like a physical PC it allows only one user at a time. If you are planning to use Datastream, please register with us for reservation. Reservations can be seen in the timetable below. If you have no reservation do not use Datastream. Do not disturb your fellow students!

Use the application "Remotedesktop" (\Windows\System32\mstsc.exe).

Special access-instructions for Mac:
Download the application "Microsoft Remote Desktop" from the App Store.

Special access-instructions for Unix:
Use the application "rdesktop". It gets started from command line with:

host$ rdesktop -k de -x l -f "Address"

This opens a fullscreen (-f) window to datastream with a German keyboard (-k de) with all windows-theme features (-x l). If your connection is too slow and the desktop is jerking, give the -P (caching bitmaps) and -z (compression) options a try and set the -x flag to b or m. To increase the colors use -a 24.

Special access-instructions for OpenSUSE (Linux machines):
Use the menu: applications -> system -> remote access -> krdc
