Nucleation and growth

Nucleation and growth processes play an immense role in many practical applications, but are difficult to study. This is especially true for the early stages of particle formation, which could proceed through the formation of amorphous intermediates before development of crystalline end products. This calls for the use of a wide range of analytical techniques, which optimally would allow in situ analyses.

We currently focus on understanding the interplay between processes occurring on the molecular scale and intra-particulate interactions, leading to the formation of particles of specific morphologies. Furthermore, we also focus on understanding the role of amorphous intermediates in the hardening of concrete.
