Broadly Applicable Synthesis of Arylated Dithienopyrroles

A versatile method for the N-arylation of dithienopyrroles was developed and presented. By palladium or copper-catalyzed coupling of a variety of arenes and acenes was directly reacted with dithienopyrrole in good yields. Further functionalization delivered cruciform-type donor-acceptor dyads, which were implemented in single material organic solar cells.
