Study pilot for chemistry - Dr. Robert Tchitnga

About me

I completed in Cameroon a Bachelor Engineering Degree at the National Higher School of Food Industries (ENSIAAC) of Ngaoundéré, as well as a High School Teachers Diploma for physics, chemistry and technology at the Advanced Teacher Training College (ENS) of Yaoundé. My doctorate in didactics of physics, of technology and in pedagogy followed at the Westfälische Wilhelms-University of Münster in Germany. I worked for several years as a high school teacher as well as a lecturer at universities in my native country. Furthermore, I hat several stays in Germany and Italy as a guest researcher and guest scientist.

Since the beginning of 2017, I am a study pilot for chemistry.

My tasks

In summary, it consists of:

  • Mediation between students and academics,
  • Support for students during phase of transition, e.g., from Bachelor to Master programs.

In addition, I am involved in organizational tasks within the orientation semester for prospective Bachelor students and will give lectures and practical trainings for physical chemistry in a pre-masters course for chemical study programs at the Ulm University.

My projects

I am committed to projects that provide students with support in the field of study and that facilitate academics the work with the students.

Online course Word for protocols and final works

An interdisciplinary Moodle course (Moodle-Kurs) provides assistance to student with the writing of reports, protocols, seminar works and final works with Word where they can log in with the password "Wordfürmich". Moreover there is a forum for the mutual exchange about problems with Word and application examples. In addition the study pilots (chemistry and biology) offer a writing workshop in the Winter Semester, for the students of both departments on Tuesdays from 16 to 18 o'clock in room O29/2003.

First Year Student Mentoring

With the right strategy for the beginning, which is offered to the students of the first semester under first-semester mentoring (Erstsemesterbetreuung), the introduction to learning is easier. This introduction takes place at the beginning of the semester from 9 - 13 October 2017.

Seminar on the topic chemistry study, laboratory experience, etc.

Seminar on the subject of Chemistry study but properly, laboratory experience, module manual examination registration, etc. as well as study funding are also offered at the start of the semester (Offers). The registration takes place in the week from 09.10.-13.10.2017.

Learning area

Chemistry students have the room O25/539 to their disposal, which is open daily from Monday to Friday from 8:15 to 18:00. It offers them the comfort to study alone or in groups.

Advice on integrating foreign students

In general, students have the opportunity to obtain sufficient answers to specific questions on their studies, as well as suggestions for orientation in their degree programs from the advisers (Studienberatern) of the degree courses in chemistry (chemistry, business chemistry, chemical engineering, energy science and technology, and chemistry teaching degree study for secondary schools). In addition, in co-operation with the working section “University Didactics” (Dipl.-Päd. Stefanie Wagner, Dr. Cornelia Estner), we advise international students of chemistry who have difficulties in adapting to the German university system in Ulm.

Propaedeutics for Bachelor's and Master's degree courses

For the summer semester 2017, the University of Ulm offers precourses (Orientierungssemester) to the orientation and preparation of students for the studies. High school graduates can get to know the everyday life of a student in an orientation semester. Students with a bachelor's degree are prepared for the technical requirements of their future master's program.

More useful offer

Tutor training

The Didactic Section of the University of Ulm offers a tutor training course for assistants in chemistry (Tutorenausbildung). Candidates are prepared for their role and tasks, e.g. the design of different phases of a tutorial, editing and discussion of the exercises in the tutorial, etc.
