The employers' association Südwestmetall has honoured Dr Anna Veronika Aubele for her excellent scientific work. The award-winning doctoral thesis, PhD thesis makes a significant contribution to the industrial world of work and its socio-political framework. The prizes, which are endowed with 5,000 euros each, have been awarded for more than 35 years.

Donations were collected at the 18th "Ulmer Denkanstöße", which were again doubled and generously rounded up this year by the Education and Social Foundation of Sparda-Bank Baden-Württemberg. A total of €5,000 was donated to the non-profit organisation WEISSER RING, which supports victims of crime and is committed to the prevention of criminal offences.

Dr Marco Mannes, a scientist from Ulm, has been awarded a Graduate Prize by the Novartis Foundation for Therapeutic Research. The prize, endowed with 8,000 euros, is awarded for outstanding scientific work that builds a bridge to clinical therapy. Mannes conducts research into the regulation of the complement system, an important component of innate immune defence. His research aims to curb excessive immune reactions and thus protect the body's own cells and tissue from damage.

The German Research Foundation (DFG) is supporting a highly innovative research project by Professor Alexander Kleger with Reinhart Koselleck funding totalling 1.25 million euros. The Medicine Professor, who heads the Institute of Molecular Oncology and Stem Cell Biology at Ulm University Hospital, is researching a ground-breaking new approach to the development and early progression of pancreatic cancer.
