The German Society for Neurosurgery (DGNC) awarded Professor Dr Gregor Antoniadis the OTFRID FOERSTER Medal. The former head of the Peripheral Nerve Surgery Section at the University of Ulm in the Günzburg District Hospital was honoured for his outstanding services to further education, diagnostics and therapy in peripheral nerve neurosurgery.

The NXTGN (‘Next Generation’) consortium, which includes Ulm University and three other universities and a university of applied sciences in Baden-Württemberg, is establishing a central innovation platform for start-ups in south-west Germany. The federal government and industry are providing up to €20 million for the NXTGN Startup Factory, which has international appeal. The University of Ulm is contributing its many years of experience in technology transfer and research-based start-up support. The goal: a new wave of start-ups!

On 2 July, the University teaching award for the subjects for the year 2024 were awarded. For the first time, the awards were made at subject level rather than faculty level. This year's award winners can be found at the following link:

At the end of April, Ulm University honoured young scientists at an awards ceremony. At Villa Eberhardt, start-up funding and a young talent incubator grant were celebrated, the winners of Science Day were honoured, and University Teaching Certificates were presented. The event was organised by ProTrainU, the university's Graduate & Professional Training Center.

The German Physical Society (DPG) has recognised Ulm as an incubator for quantum research as part of its ‘100 Quantum Locations’ initiative. This initiative highlights places, buildings and institutes that have a special connection to quantum physics. The University of Ulm and the DLR site in Ulm, which were selected by the DPG as the first quantum locations as part of the initiative, celebrated the award together on site at both institutions.
