Healthy eating, active leisure activities with more exercise and mindfulness: that's the aim of the "Come aboard the healthy boat" initiative. The Ulm-based health promotion program, developed for nurseries, kindergartens, and elementary schools, has received first prize at the Springer Medicine Charity Awards. The award was presented to project leader Professor Susanne Kobel at the grand Springer Medicine Gala 2025 on Tuesday, October 28, in Berlin.

Professor Maximilian Fichtner has been awarded the International Dr Barbara Mez-Starck Prize worth 25,000 euros for his research into post-lithium batteries. The globally recognised battery expert is considered an excellent communicator and advocate of alternative storage media. The Dr Barbara Mez-Starck Foundation also inaugurated a work of art in honour of the founder at the award ceremony.

Junior professor Nathalie Oexle becomes the new Heisenberg Professor at Ulm University. The health scientist is a member of the Section of Public Mental Health of the Department of Psychiatry and Psychotherapy II at Ulm University Hospital. Her research interests include suicide prevention and the stigma of mental disorders. The funding within the Heisenberg Programme of the German Research Foundation will run for five years.

PD Dr Tobias Skuban-Eiseler from the Institute for History, Theory and Ethics of Medicine at Ulm University has been awarded the Dr Bertold Moos Prize for his pioneering research on vulnerable groups in medicine. The prize, endowed with 10,000 euros, recognises his outstanding scientific service performances in the field of medical ethics.

Two female junior professors at Ulm University are being funded by the Margarete von Wrangell Junior Professorship Programme of the Baden-Württemberg Ministry of Science. The junior professors Ani Grigoryan, an expert in stem cell ageing, and Rebecca Halbgebauer, who researches multi-organ failure after trauma, have been accepted onto the programme. Both can each employ a recently graduated scientist for three years to reinforce their research expertise.

With an outstanding result, the Einstein Motorsport Team of Ulm University of Applied Sciences returned from the Formula Student France with an outstanding result. The team of students from Ulm and Neu-Ulm impressed in manual and autonomous driving at the international student design competition in France. The event took place for the third time on the test track of car manufacturer Renault, which has also been used for autonomous driving tests since 2004 - it was the premiere for the Einstein Motorsport team.

Dr. Markus Marquard, an expert in continuing academic education, intergenerational learning, and digital education for seniors from Ulm, has been appointed to the expert commission tasked with preparing the German Federal Government's Tenth Report on Aging. The report focuses on the topic of "Education and Learning in Old Age." Marquard is the managing director of the Center for General Academic Continuing Education (ZAWiW) at the University of Ulm. With its seasonal academies for older adults and other intergenerational continuing education programs, the ZAWiW has set standards nationwide.
