32nd International Summer School of Epidemiology

COURSE 1: Introduction to Principles of Epidemiology

Jessie K. Edwards

This course introduces epidemiologic principles and their application to answer public health questions. The goal of the course is to provide a foundation in epidemiology for students to interpret epidemiologic studies, apply to their own research and build upon during future study. Topics will include the components of meaningful epidemiologic questions, measures of occurrence and association, common study designs and threats to validity. The course will also introduce basic analytic techniques to address common sources of bias. Each session will consist of both lecture and practice-based laboratory components.
