Resilience to censorship and the integrity of academic publications: Design and evaluation of a curated, decentralised repository based on IPFS, combined with an architecture that ensures application and transport anonymisation

Academic freedom is increasingly under threat from internet censorship and the self-censorship of researchers that this encourages. Current research therefore calls for the application of the ‘accessibility-by-design’ principle when dealing with scientific data. As part of this Master’s thesis, a prototype of a censorship-resistant, decentralised scientific repository based on IPFS (InterPlanetary File System) is designed and evaluated. The architecture combines a middleware component specialising in application and transport anonymity with a decentralised curation model to ensure the quality and integrity of scientific artefacts.
