Institute of Biomedical Engineering

Welcome to the Institute of Biomedical Engineering

The surge of digital health tools in Germany and Europe is also shaping the research and teaching in biomedical engineering. Under the lead of Prof. Walter Karlen, we research new methods and approaches for digital health and medical wearables. We develop mobile health (mHealth) systems and design machine learning approaches to deliver personalized medical services and interventions with the goal to improve patient outcomes and quality of life.

Our teaching focuses on the training of future leaders in digital health: engineers who understand the challenges of digitalization in medicine and health care professionals who can efficiently use digital technologies and automation for improving patient care.
