In Natural Sciences degree programmes, assessments are often challenging: written exams, oral examinations and experimental or laboratory reports all place very different demands on you. In this workshop, you’ll prepare specifically for these formats and learn how to plan your revision effectively over several weeks.

You will develop your own study plan, discover effective learning and time-management strategies, and be given practical methods to better manage your motivation and exam stress. This will enable you to approach your exams in a more structured and confident manner, and with greater composure.

Contents and key areas:

  • Study organisation & time management: drawing up a realistic study plan for the weeks leading up to the exam
  • Understanding the differences between exam formats (written exams, oral examinations, experimental and laboratory reports)
  • Developing strategies to deal with these different types of examination in a systematic way
  • Gaining a better understanding of examiners’ expectations and using this to inform your own preparation
  • Study techniques ‘in a nutshell’ – concise methods for effective learning
  • Stress management and motivation: understanding the causes of stress and taking targeted action to counteract it (e.g. through relaxation and mindfulness techniques)
  • Reinforce your own motivation: set goals, use rewards wisely
