The History of our Structural Development in Core Facility Administration in Ulm

Core Facilities and Expertise for Life Science Research

2016 - 2019

DFG funded Center MoMAN: Phase 1

Establishement of a central coordination platform for the imaging core facilities in order to promote, further develop and bundle activities in the field of translational imaging

2022 - 2024

DFG funded Center MoMAN: Phase 2

Extension of the successful administrative support to other core facility technologies. Addition of a structured training program and establishment of a structure for data repositories

2025 -

Technology Center ULMTeC

Allocation of all MED Core Facilities into the operational facility structure ULMTeC

For many years Ulm University has followed a strategy of establishing central research infrastructures (“core facilities”) that are accessible to internal and external researchers. Our Core Facilities provide bundled expertise in state-of-the-art technologies, know-how and services thus leading to a professional and sustainable usage of research infrastructure.

2016-2024: MoMAN

From 2016-2024 the core facility concept has been elaborated in the DFG funded administrative structure of the Center for Translational Imaging - From Molecule to Man (MoMAN, project number 447235146). It was initially (2016-2019) established as a central coordination unit for the imaging core facilities and served to promote, further develop and bundle activities in the field of translational imaging. In the second funding phase (2022-2024), the successful administrative support was extended to other core facility technologies. Furthermore a structured training program was added and a structure for data repositories was established.

Since 2025: ULMTeC

In 2024 the Medical Faculty has structurally expanded and further professionalized the highly successful MoMAN Center into the “Ulm Life Science and Medicine Technology Center” (ULMTeC) by allocating all their existing Core Facilities into this operational facility structure. ULMTeC is also listed in the RIsources database of the DFG.

ULMTeC now serves as an umbrella structure of the entire research service infrastructure of the Medical Faculty, thereby strengthening Ulm as a research hub. The management team of ULMTeC acts as an interface between the Core Facilities, scientists and the Faculty administration to ensure accessibility, visibility, transparency, and financial sustainability of the research core facilities at the Medical Faculty.
