Ulm University Doctoral Supervision Award

Award Overview

The Ulm University Doctoral Supervision Award recognises the dedicated and responsible commitment of doctoral supervisors and honours outstanding supervision of doctoral researchers at Ulm University. The award recognises supervisors and supervisory teams who foster a relationship based on trust and respect, communicate openly and appreciatively, and actively support the academic development and career prospects of doctoral researchers. It aims to strengthen the University's culture of doctoral supervision, emphasise the importance of high-quality doctoral supervision, and highlight examples of excellent supervisory practice. 
 

Eligibility for Nomination

Eligible for nomination are all members of Ulm University who are authorised to supervise doctoral researchers under the applicable doctoral degree regulations and who provide academic supervision to doctoral researchers. Supervisory teams and research groups may also be nominated. In justified exceptional cases, postdoctoral researchers may be nominated if they make a substantial contribution to the supervision of doctoral researchers. Nominees must be members of Ulm University at the time of nomination. Self-nominations are not permitted.

Nominations may be submitted by all registered doctoral researchers at Ulm University as well as by graduates of Ulm University whose doctoral defence took place no more than two years before the nomination date.
 

Prize

Each year, Ulm University presents four Doctoral Supervision Awards – one for each faculty. Each award is endowed with EUR 2,000. The prize is awarded in the form of institutional funds, which may be used for research and teaching activities. The award may be shared.
 

Award Selection Process

The recipients are selected by the ProTrainU Board on the basis of all eligible nominations submitted by the deadline.

Particular consideration is given to:

• active support for the academic development and career prospects of doctoral researchers,
• a relationship based on trust and respect, and
• open and appreciative communication between all parties involved.

The award recipients are honoured during Ulm University's Dies Academicus.
