Members of the Institute of Botany were joined by master's students from our module “From Tree Biology to Forest Ecology” and a motivated group from the Department of Psychology. Landtags representative Michael Joukov (Green Party) and his co-candidate Helena Miller also participated as volunteers (Michael Joukov also turned out to be one of the most engaged tree-planters)..
We learned from the best: Anngritt Scheuter, Sebastian Hess, and Thomas Herrmann from ForstBW provided fantastic support for the planting campaign with tools, knowledge, and practical work. Before we got started, Sebastian Hess showed us how to plant a tree like a pro and what we needed to pay particular attention to. Then everyone gave it their all for around 2 ½ hours.
Overall, the planting campaign was a great success – we finished well ahead of schedule and everyone enjoyed working in the fresh outdoors to create something special. You can clearly see lots of happy faces in the photos! And at lunchtime, we were all able to warm up again with pizza.
Of course, the work would have been much harder for everyone if so much effort had not been put into preparing the site. It took a whole week to cut back brambles, remove branches, and mark the locations of the individual trees. Abby did an excellent job of leading this considerable task, supported by the great efforts of Lion, Radim, and Clara.
Many thanks to everyone who helped make the WandelWald a reality!
