School of Humanities

Research and teaching in the field of philosophy, languages, philology, additive key qualifications, cultural studies and general academic further education for students and the interested public are to be carried out in the department.

The School of Humanities is divided into three departments:

With its range of courses, the Humboldt Study Center for Philosophy and Humanities aims to expand specialist training in the form of contemporary academic education.

The Center for General Scientific Continuing Education (ZAWiW) stands for the development and implementation of innovative educational offers for (older) adults.

The Center for Languages and Philology (ZSP) is dedicated to deepening and expanding foreign language skills and developing intercultural (action) skills.

Welcome to the School of Humanities

Since the 1st of October 2012, courses in the humanities offered by the University have been combined within in the School of Humanities (statute). In the School of Humanities research and teaching in the fields of philosophy, languages, philology, additive transferable skills, cultural studies and the general further education for students and the interested public are applied.

These include, e.g., study programs in the field of philosophy and cultural studies, additive transferable skills (ASQ), introductory studies in philosophical ethics (EPG), personal competencies modules (MPK), languages, philology and learning through research, as well as general further education.  For information on prices and fees see the  Gebühren- und Entgeltsatzung of the School of Humanities (Department für Geisteswissenschaften).  

Academic research is carried out in the areas of philosophy, cultural studies, additive transferable skills, ethics in education, personal competencies, languages, philology, geragogics and learning through research. 

The School of Humanities promotes the arts through a special program (Arts Centre / Musische Werkstatt), in particular with options of courses in classical and popular music, the visual and performing arts, dance and word.
